Friday morning…
Got up at 7:30AM. Got ready to leave. Got dropped off at Wal-Mart (on Anderson Ln.) Took 2 busses to get to Torchy’s at 10:15AM. I’m late.
“Hey! What took you so long?”
“I had to take 2 busses to get here and its Friday.”
“Whatever, lets eat! Do you know what you want?”
“Umm. No, I’ve never been here.”
“Alright lets go”
Guy behind the counter, “Good morning! What can we get you today?”
Victor, “Ill have 2 breakfast tacos, with bacon, egg, potato, and cheese. And a small coffee.”
Guys behind the counter, “Alright and for you missy”
Me, “Well its my first time here, so what’s the craziest thing you got?”
Guy behind the counter, “Hmm, the craziest thing we got is actually on our ‘Secret Menu’ its called The Matador.”
Victor, “I didn’t know you guys had a Secret Menu?”
Me, “What’s The Matador?”
Guy behind the counter, “It’s a flour tortilla, a fried corn tortilla, brisket, topped with pickled onions, jalapenos, cilantro, avocado, and sour cream.”
Victor, “She’ll have that!”
Guy behind the counter, “OK!”
About 5 minutes later this is set in front of me…
I know what you’re thinking, “Torchys has a secret menu?!” “The Matador?!” “That looks AMAZING!”
Well let me tell you something. They do! Yes! And IT WAS AMAZING!
This was by far the biggest taco I’d ever eaten. The brisket was so tender and so flavorful. The pickled onion was acidic enough to balance the richness of the brisket. The crispy corn tortilla, against a fluffy flour tortilla, with the creaminess of the avocado and sour cream…it was blissful my friends, to say the least. I definitely recommend getting this bad boy. You’ll be shouting, “Oley!”
